CMA is a brain development program that teaches mental arithmetic based on the principles of the tool, abacus. The program improves a child’s logical reasoning, enhances his or her learning capability, promotes longer concentration span and builds a strong photographic memory.
Two words to describe the design of CMA’s program: fun and engaging. We have some of the most effective strategies for learning abacus mental arithmetic incorporated into every session. Our approach is multimedia. We use memory-enhancing games; a lot of hands-on activities, songs, individual and group challenges, and supplementary on-line practices.
Through these strategies, young children and even adults will gradually be able to perform mental calculations quickly.
CMA believes in an ability-based learning. This means that teaching will be be designed accordingly. We believe that each child has a unique way and pace for learning new things.
Our team makes a conscious effort to keep communication lines with parents and guardians open. We constantly check in with them to report the student’s progress and at the same time, gain feedback on how the child is doing and whether there are other things we need to know about his or her abilities.

The Kindy Program is the fundamental phase in the Abacus and Mental Arithmetic learning.
The teaching contents include:
- Writing numbers in the right sequence.
- Learning the abacus images.
- Learning and singing the Abacus Formula Songs and Multiplication songs.
- Learning to manipulate the abacus beads from 0~9 by right finger sequence.
The Kindy Program establishes a happy and relaxing learning environment that involves a lot of games, singing and dancing. The program helps cultivate the ability of the students to concentrate, which is CMA’s primary goal.
The content between the two programs is the same. The difference will be seen in the progress of the students who attend the twice-a-week program. Their progress is generally faster because they get more guidance and are more frequently exposed to exercises.

Most young children learn counting numbers by counting their fingers. It is difficult for them to comprehend numeric relationships beyond the number 10 for lack of countable objects. Regular math relies on limited memory and brainpower to solve arithmetic problems.

No, CMA does not teach the academic mathematics taught in school. Our programs focus on total brain development through two-hand abacus arithmetic. Children are still required to familiarize with the methodology taught in school. Our method compliments and does not substitute the concepts taught in school. We encourage students to use CMA methods to double check their calculation in school.
Learning the abacus is instrumental in total brain development. It is not just a tool to help you solve mathematical problems, but helps a child’s brain development and makes him or her able to calculate without any tools. It’s like choosing to climb the stairs to the third floor of a building even though it has elevators because it improves your overall health and gives you the necessary exercise. Similarly, learning the abacus mental arithmetic system works as a mental exercise for the brain.
Kumon uses the traditional methods of calculation based on school curriculum, whereas the other two (Galileo and Enopi) teaches “Singapore Math“. Singapore Math makes arithmetic problems visual – it makes children visualize numbers. On the other hand, CMA teaches the kids to master the four basic mathematical operations using two-hand abacus arithmetic. The students’ minds are trained to not just visualize the numbers but the whole abacus itself which results to faster calculation. In the process, CMA develops the logical left brain and the creative right brain. This gives your child an edge - not just in mathematics but other subjects as well.
Conventional abacus lessons used only single-hand teaching. Most conventional abacus lessons used 2/5 abacus (i.e. 2 beads on top and 5 beads at the bottom) while CMA uses 1/4 abacus (1 bead on top and 4 beads at the bottom) in the training process and we use two hand four finger methods in manipulating the beads.
There’s an option of once-a-week program or twice-a-week program. The course fee is Php 6,500.00 per module (once-a-week) or Php 4,500.00 per module (twice-a-week). Each module consists of 10 lessons.
Parents can assist their children by joining regular seminars organized by the CMA centers. You will learn techniques of bead stirring and calculating. You can also help your children through on line tutorial. CMA students are given a password to access on line tutorial. Parents can go through this with their child. CMA teachers are also available to guide you on how to best assist your children at home.

Yes, we offer one trial lesson per child who can write and understand the concept of 0 to 9 for our Kinder and Primary Programs. For children who are 5 years old and below, they need to go through a free initial assessment to determine their capability to start the Kinder Program.
All our teachers at CMA are certified by CMA Taiwan. Before going onboard to teach, they go through a period of training where they familiarize themselves with our program, and learn the abacus method. In these trainings, they are also taught how to best teach children and engage them during their classes. All throughout the year, we also hold seminars that help teachers enhance their skills in the abacus method and in teaching.
During the program, students will:
- Learn the proper technique of clearing and stirring beads on the abacus using two hands simultaneously.
- Learn effective and fast calculation techniques, which involve the four operations of numerals (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
- Learn to memorize words using our power memory program.

The uniqueness of this two-hand four-finger abacus system will train the student to be able to stir the abacus beads using fingers with dexterity. Being left-handed means the child will need a little practice to be able to stir the beads on the abacus using the right hand skillfully. After perfecting the technique of using the right hand to stir the beads, he or she will then combine both the left and right hands to stir the beads when calculating questions involving formula.
